Invited Lecture at the IntoME Summer Training School on AI & Migration

On 29 June 2026, Prof. Simone Marinai was invited to deliver a lecture entitled “Digital Surveillance and Interoperability in EU Migration Governance under the New Pact on Migration and Asylum” at the 2026 Summer Training School “AI & Migration”, organised by the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence on the Integration of Migrants in Europe (IntoME) at the University of Tuscia.
The lecture examined the legal implications of digital surveillance and the interoperability of EU migration information systems within the framework of the new EU Pact on Migration and Asylum. Particular attention was devoted to the relationship between technological innovation, accountability mechanisms, data protection and the safeguarding of fundamental rights.
This activity contributed to the dissemination of the research carried out within the Jean Monnet Module MAC-EUPACT and strengthened academic cooperation with other Erasmus+ Jean Monnet initiatives.

Expert Hearing before the Italian Senate on the Implementation of the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum
Date: 25 June 2026
On 25 June 2026, Prof. Simone Marinai, Coordinator of the Jean Monnet Module MAC-EUPACT, participated as an invited expert in a hearing before the Joint Committees on Constitutional Affairs and Justice of the Italian Senate.
The hearing took place during the parliamentary examination of the bill converting Decree-Law No. 100/2026 into law, which introduces the first national measures implementing the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum.
During the hearing, Prof. Marinai analysed the main legal issues arising from the implementation of the EU Pact, with particular attention to the interaction between European Union law and the Italian legal system. His contribution supported the parliamentary discussion on the legal implications of the new legislative framework.
This initiative represents an important outreach activity of the Jean Monnet Module MAC-EUPACT, promoting the dissemination of academic expertise and fostering dialogue between academia and public institutions on the implementation of the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum.

Lecture on the Protection of Migrants’ Health in International and EU Law

On 13 May 2026, Prof. Simone Marinai delivered a lecture entitled “The Protection of Migrants’ Health: International, European and Human Rights Perspectives” within the interdisciplinary course “Global Health: An Interdisciplinary Perspective”, coordinated by Prof. Valentina Mangano at the University of Pisa.
The lecture examined the protection of migrants’ health under international law, European Union law and the European Convention on Human Rights, addressing issues such as access to healthcare for migrants in vulnerable situations, health screening at external borders, administrative detention, and the impact of the new EU Pact on Migration and Asylum on the protection of fundamental rights. On 31 January 2026, the concluding seminar of the Executive Course in “Asylum and International Protection” was held in Rome at LUISS Guido Carli. The course was organised by Professor Francesco Cherubini in collaboration with UNHCR, the National Commission for the Right of Asylum, and the Rome Territorial Commission.
The event was attended by two members of the key teaching staff of the Jean Monnet Module MAC-EUPACT. In particular, Professor Simone Marinai delivered the greetings on behalf of the AISDUE Forum on Immigration, Asylum and Migration, which has launched a collaboration with the Executive Course, while Professor Marcello Di Filippo gave a keynote speech entitled “Environmental Migrants between Main Protection Statuses and Special Protection”.
On Monday, 10 November 2025, Prof. Simone Marinai will present the opening remarks at the annual seminar of the AISDUE Forum “Immigration, Borders and Asylum” at the University of Salerno.
This year’s edition will focus on “Fair Treatment and Non-Discrimination of Third-Country Nationals: Between Objectives, Rules and Practices in the European Union.”

On Friday, 7 November 2025, Prof. Simone Marinai will participate as a speaker in the Annual Training Course on Immigration Law organized by the Chamber of Lawyers for Human and Immigrants’ Rights (CADUS), together with the Association for Legal Studies on Immigration (ASGI).
The event is held under the patronage of the Departments of Legal Sciences of the Universities of Trieste, Verona, Udine, Ferrara, and Brescia, with the support of the AISDUE Forum on Borders, Immigration and Asylum, the Criminal Bar Association of Gorizia, and the Venetian Criminal Bar Association, and under the patronage of the Bar Council of Padua.
