Within AISDUE, Prof. Simone Marinai coordinates the “Immigration, Borders and Asylum” Forum, which aims, among other things, to stimulate debate on significant legislative and jurisprudential developments in the field, highlighting both progress and any critical issues arising from proposed and subsequently adopted reforms. The Forum maintains a constant focus on the need for EU policies in this area to be developed and implemented in full respect of the rule of law and human rights, which must be interpreted in particular in light of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union.
At this link, you can find information about the Forum’s activities, as well as monthly bulletins featuring case law updates and bimonthly bulletins highlighting relevant legislation, documents, and academic literature in the field.
The Observatory – launched by the Department of Law of the University of Pisa and supported by the Department of Political Science of the same University – is directed by Prof. Marcello Di Filippo. It is a reference center for issues related to the status of foreign nationals, the movement of persons in general, and the enjoyment of human rights by mobile persons, with a special focus on the European context and on the provisions of international law
The main activities deployed or promoted by the Observatory are: a) advanced modules on European and international migration law; b) organisation of seminars, workshops and round-tables on controversial and current issues (see, for instance, here); c) research on new issues; d) drafting of working papers, policy briefs and expert opinions to the benefit of policy makers at domestic (see, for instance, here) and European level (see, for instance, here and here); e) promotion of pilot projects on innovative approaches to migration management (see, for instance, the cooperation with IOM and UNHCR on access to university studies for migrants and refugees).
Within SIDI, the Interest Group on “International and European Migration and Asylum Law” (DIEMA) aims at promoting academic and practical understanding, study, and critical discussion of all topics considered relevant to the advancement of scientific research in the field of international and European migration and asylum law, including aspects related to the functioning of citizenship.
